Grandma’s Easy Honey Mustard Salad Dressing

Grandma’s Easy Honey Mustard Salad Dressing

Recipe Tip of the Day

Honey mustard is a long-time favorite salad dressing.  Its humble beginnings began in Rome when Palladius, a Roman agronomist, created a recipe with ground mustard seeds, olive oil, honey, and wine vinegar.  Some sources say it was invented in Egypt when, according to legend, a beekeeper made a honey mustard salad.  In the 1600’s, it was used as a meat dipping sauce in France.  It then made its way to the US and home cooks began using it in earnest in the 1940’s.

Today, honey mustard is a favorite dipping sauce or dressing for meat dishes and salads.

Here is a very simple, and easy to make, version of honey mustard salad dressing.

Honey Mustard Salad Dressing

3 Tbsp. vegetable oil
2 Tbsp. honey
1 1/2 Tbsp. prepared mustard
1 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper

Put all ingredients in a small bowl or salad dressing shaker/dispenser.

Mix or shake until the ingredients are well blended.

Pour over salad greens or into dipping bowls if using as a dip.

Makes 1/3 cup.
