Beauty Tip of the Day
Green tea is excellent for dry skin and the red soreness that results from it. A green tea facial sauna and/or homemade toner are the perfect remedies.
Green tea has a high concentration of a polyphenol called a catechin. Catechins reduce skin inflammation and antibacterial properties that can reduce the bacteria which cause acne and other skin irritations.
A simple facial tea sauna can be made by bringing 4 cups water to a boil. Add 2 green tea bags and let steep. For an even better solution, cut open the tea bags and steep the leaves in the boiling water. Drape a towel over your head and bend over the steaming tea with the face about 6 to 8 inches above the water. If the steam feels too hot wait a minute or so, until the temperature has a soothing, and not burning, feeling to the skin. Raising the towel to let some of the steam escape is also helpful. Relax in the sauna for 10 minutes.
After the sauna, rinse face with cool water. It will remove the sweat and impurities that the steam removed from the pores and akin.
A skin tonic can be easily prepared from green tea. Add one teabag or 1 to 2 tablespoons of loose tea leaves into 8 to 12 ounces of boiling water. Cool, strain, and pour into a spray bottle. This tea can be sprayed onto the skin once or twice a day. Let dry before adding daily moisturizer, concealer, etc.
A facial tea mask can be made by cutting open a used tea bag and mixing the tea leaves with a tablespoon of honey. Mix well. Apply this mixture to a clean face and leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water. Dry and apply daily facial makeup. Repeat once weekly.
After enjoying a warm cup of tea, the cooled green tea bag can be applied to the face. Letting this residue tea dry on the skin can be used to treat acne and revitalize the complexion.
