Clean Mustard Off Carpet Fast

Cleaning Tip of the Day

Mustard is a food known to stain almost everything it touches. Cleaning mustard from a carpet can be a daunting task, but it can be done if done properly. Here are some methods that have been proven to be successful.

Before using any of the mixtures below, first gently wipe or scrape away the excess mustard. Do not rub, or the mustard will be pressed into the fibers even deeper. Next, make a solution of 2 cups water to 1 cup dish soap. Gently remove as much of the mustard residue as possible.

In a separate little bowl, mix 3 parts dish soap with 1 part hydrogen peroxide. Spread this mixture onto the area. Let sit for a few minutes. Then, using a clean towel dipped in cold water, gently wipe and pat the area until everything is removed except a nice clean carpet. Let dry.

Another method is to mix 1 teaspoon of dish soap and 1/4 teaspoon of white vinegar into a cup of cold water. Apply to the area and leave for 15 minutes. Rinse with a towel soaked in hot water.
Another mixture to try is made with 2 parts baking soda and 1 part water. Gently rub this paste into the carpet fibers until the stain is removed.

Vinegar is excellent for removing stains. However, a paste made with white vinegar and baking soda works equally well.
