Baking Tip of the Day
Yeast dough needs to rise to produce delicious loaves of bread, gooey cinnamon rolls, large puffy hamburger buns, and more. Yeast needs warmth, but not too hot, to rise dough.
In cold kitchens, using an oven is one way to produce a warm environment for the yeast dough to rise. Heat oven to 200 and let warm for 2 minutes. Then, turn off and let the dough sit in the oven.
Another way to use a warm oven is to place a pot of boiling water into the oven on the lower rack. Next, place the dough bowl on the upper rack and close the oven door. The hot water will keep the oven warm.
Keep an electric heating pad in the kitchen. Place pans of yeast dough for bread, rolls, or doughnuts on the heating pad with the dial set on low. The extra warmth of the pad will help your yeast products raise faster and more evenly.
Warm the bowl with hot water when making yeast dough.
Do not let salt and dry yeast touch. Instead, dissolve the yeast in water before adding to the dry ingredients.
