Mice Sing To Mates

While it’s well known that male birds, insects, whales, and humans serenade a prospective mate, it isn’t commonly known that male mice sing to their loved one.  Humans don’t hear the songs because they are ultrasonic vocalizations.

According to researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis one theory is that the singing evokes a response of the pheromones in the female mouse which then leads to mating; it may be more complicated than first thought. This ability isn’t found in any other animal. Perhaps this is why the ultrasonic pest repellents are so popular and effective in clearing an area from mice infestations.
