Cleaning Tip of the Day
When silver jewelry, flatware, vases, and other household items become tarnished, they lose their beauty. Here are some easy and inexpensive ways to clean these items and regain their luster.
Make a puree of banana peels and rub on the item. Wash the puree off, and the silver will shine.
Mix 1/2 cup kosher salt with 1/2 cup baking powder. Add to a basin or bowl of hot water. Let silver items soak for 3 to 5 minutes. Rinse and dry.
Brush silver items with toothpaste. Leave on for 5 minutes and rinse.
Sour one cup of milk with 1 tablespoon white vinegar. Place tarnished items for 30 minutes. Wash with soapy water, rinse, and dry.
Form a paste with cornstarch and water. Apply to the silver items and let dry. Remove the dried paste with a soft cloth.
While these tips are fine for modern-day silver, be wary of using these techniques on antiques or pieces of high monetary value.
