Can Ginger Help Headaches

Ginger is an herb that can help stop a migraine headache at the first sign of pain as well as one prescription medication. Ginger is also helpful for cluster, tension, and stress headaches.

Doctors acknowledge that ginger is a helpful home remedy for migraines. A National Institutes of Health study found that ginger is almost as beneficial in treating migraines as the prescription drug sumatriptan.

Massage a few drops of ginger oil diluted in olive, vegetable, or other carrier oil into temples, nape of neck, or forehead to stave off a migraine.

A cup of ginger tea is helpful for relieving pain from all types of headaches. To make ginger tea add half a teaspoon of powdered ginger to a cup of water. Alternatively, add one teaspoon of freshly grated ginger to hot water and let steep for 5 to 10 minutes. A small amount of honey can be added if desired.

Another delicious version is to add ginger to 1 cup of hot milk with 2 teaspoons of instant coffee.

Doctors recommend up to 3 to 4 grams of ginger per day. One half teaspoon is equal to 1 gram of ginger extract. One teaspoon of grated raw ginger

One gram of ginger is equal to one-half teaspoon of powdered ginger or one teaspoon of freshly grated ginger.
