Relieve Stress With Garlic

Health Tip of the Day

Garlic is one herb that is excellent for reducing anxiety, stress, and depression. In addition, garlic reduces cortisol and adrenaline, the hormones naturally produced during stress.

Because cortisol causes stress in the body, the effects can be weight gain, high blood pressure, inflammation in all parts of the body, and many other serious illnesses.

Allicin is the active ingredient in garlic that produces health benefits.

An animal study conducted in 2018 and published in the Archives of Physiology and Biochemistry revealed that a 10-day diet with garlic included lowered symptoms of depression, anxiety, and lower stress level markers.

Even without consuming it, merely inhaling the delicious aroma of slow-cooking garlic can reduce stress levels by 39%, according to research at the Chicago Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation. According to neurologists, the scent of garlic reduces stress and anxiety by signaling the part of the brain that controls the production of the stress hormones adrenalin and cortisol.

The three best ways to include garlic in the diet are eating garlic, drinking garlic tea, and taking garlic tablets or capsules.

To prepare a cup of garlic tea, bring one clove of garlic in one cup of water to a boil. Remove the boiled garlic clove. Discard or eat if desired. Add 1/3 tablespoon of honey and 1/3 tablespoon of lemon juice.

Garlic is best used raw, but it is best eaten with as little cooking as possible for those who cannot tolerate raw garlic. Garlic powder does not have allicin.
