For parties crackers are an excellent finger food. When homemade, the crackers can be baked in any shape or form desired depending on the occasion.
This caraway seed cracker recipe contains cayenne pepper for some heat. The amount of cayenne put into the recipe can range from a little to a lot, or none at all so that everyone can enjoy them. Can be eaten plain, with dips, cheese, or meat.
Homemade Caraway Seed Crackers Recipe
1 1/4 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons caraway seeds
1 1/2 teaspoons celery seeds
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 tsp garlic powder
1/2 cup heavy cream, plus more for brushing tops
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Sea or Kosher salt
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Mix flour, sugar, caraway seeds, celery seeds, cayenne pepper, salt, and garlic powder.
Add oil to cream, then mix into the dry ingredients. Combine well.
Cover and rest for 10 minutes.
Divide dough into two or three sections and roll out very thin on a lightly floured cutting board. Cut into squares, use a biscuit cutter, or any other shape desired.
Place crackers on parchment lined sheet pans.
Brush with cream and sprinkle lightly with Sea of Kosher salt.
Bake for 5 to 8 minutes until edges begin to get golden. Watch closely after 5 minutes as baking time will vary depending on thickness of crackers.
