How Adults Celebrate Halloween

Adults who celebrate Halloween

Halloween is no longer just for children. Adults are enjoying dressing in costumes, decorating their yard and home, and even dressing their pets in costumes for the fun.

Why do adults celebrate Halloween?

Many adults simply enjoy the festivities just like other people enjoy Christmas and dressing up as Santa Claus. Others celebrate Samhain, an old Pagan custom that is still practiced by many.

What percent of adults celebrate Halloween?

Over 48.2% of adults dress for Halloween. Stores report selling twice as many adult costumes as children’s costumes.

Money spent for Halloween is rivaled only by Christmas decorations. Every year since the 1980’s adult interest in Halloween has increased.

For 2018, estimates show that $2.6 billion will be spent on candy, $2.7 billion for decorations for home and yard, $390 million on greeting cards, and $3.35 billion for costumes with 48.2% of adults dressing for Halloween. Adult coloring books are also one of the best sellers.

Adults should not dress up for Halloween?

It is the opinion of some that adults should not dress up for Halloween, leaving that custom for children. Historically, masquerade balls were a social event where participants dressed in costumes and remained mysterious. Modern day Halloween festivities are the twenty-first century’s version of the old-time masquerade balls.
