How to Get Rid of Picnic Ants

Gardening Tip of the Day

Ants are always a nuisance at picnics. Instead of using toxic chemicals around food, here is one tip using a natural kitchen ingredient that will send ants scurrying away.

Ants use scent trails to bring the colony of ants to the discovered food. Acidic liquids are successful at repelling ants because it breaks the odor of the route so ants cannot follow the original trail.

Vinegar is one of the best ways to keep ants away from picnic tables or blankets. Simply mix equal parts of white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spray the blanket, table, and outside of food containers with the mixture. Or simply wipe the table or tablecloth with the mixture.

Citrus juice works well too so lemon or orange juice will work the same way if vinegar is not available.
