For anyone troubled with insomnia lettuce may just be the answer.
Everything from less coffee before bedtime to warm milk, honey, or chamomile tea has been suggested for insomnia. All this advice is good advice. But for those to whom these tips don’t help, there is now lettuce as an alternative to drugs for a good night’s sleep.
According to Food Science and Biotechnology, lettuce contains a sleep-inducing substance, called ‘lectucarium’. It is suggested that making a tea with one tablespoon of lettuce seeds steeped in water and boiled down to one-third of its original quantity may help with insomnia and induce a longer time spent sleeping.
Lettuce can easily be grown indoors or out and eaten regularly as well.
