Sugar cubes can be used for purposes other than as a sweetener.
Place a few sugar cubes in a covered container with cheese to prevent cheese from molding.
Sugar cubes put into a cookie jar or plastic bag with cookies will absorb extra moisture to keep the cookies fresh. The sugar cubes also prevent mold from spoiling the cookies.
Drop a sugar cube into a vase of flowers to help the flowers stay fresh longer. Cut the flowers on a slant. The flowers will be able to increase water intake. Be sure the sugar cube is completely dissolved before adding to the vase.
A renowned actress was known to use sugar cubes to fend off a cold. She soaked a sugar cube with 3 drops of eucalyptus oil and used it like a modern-day cough drop. Unlike cough lozenges and syrups, she could use the remedy as often as she needed.
Sugar cubes can be placed on tables near beverages at a party. If the guests prefer more sweetness in a beverage they can simply add them to their drink
Sugar cubes make excellent substitutes for soda. Place 3 cubes of sugar into a 10- to 12-ounce tumbler with one and one-half teaspoons of strawberry, cherry, or other favorite fruit flavored extract. Add 8 to 10 ounces of seltzer water. Stir to dissolve the sugar cubes before drinking.
Sugar cubes can also be soaked in peppermint and/or lemon extract and added to iced tea.
