For those who like fruit-flavored syrups as an alternative to the old standby maple syrup, try making it at home. It will save money, taste as good, or better, and is so easy to make!
This syrup is delicious on dishes where pancake syrup is usually used including pancakes, waffles, and French toast.
This syrup can be drizzled over doughnuts, cakes, or many other desserts.
An orange version is delicious on fried chicken as well.
Gelatin Syrup
1 3-oz pkg gelatin, any flavor desired
1/2 cup sugar
2 Tbsp cornstarch
1 cup cold water
Mix dry ingredients until thoroughly blended.
In a small saucepan combine dry ingredients with water.
Bring to a boil. Boil for about 3 to 4 minutes or until mixture becomes a syrup.
Pour into a pitcher and serve while hot.
Makes 1 cup.
Leftover syrup can be refrigerated. It will firm up as a gelatin dish does, but it can be warmed over gentle heat. It will be liquid syrup again in just a few minutes.
