Cleaning Tip of the Day
Sunscreen is an oily substance that needs special treatments to remove from clothing.
To remove sunscreen stains from fabric, absorb excess sunscreen with cornmeal. Brush when dry. Apply pre-wash stain remover, smear with petroleum jelly and wash in warm water. Treat the stain quickly before it attracts dirt and darkens.
Remove a much excess sunscreen as possible from the garment. Sprinkle cornstarch or baking soda on the stained area. After 15 minutes, brush off the cornstarch. Apply a liquid detergent or dish soap and wash as usual.
Rinse the stained area with cold water. Then apply a solution of liquid soap or detergent and warm water. Rinse out with cold water. Then wash as usual with a heavy-duty detergent.
Soak the stained area with white vinegar for a few hours before washing in hot water.
Soak the garment in cold water. Then apply lemon juice to the stain. Pour enough salt on the stain to make a small hill. Let sit for about 8 hours and launder as usual.
Using an oil-free sunscreen leaves no stain so clothing can be washed without special treatments.
