How to Stop Hands Smelling of Garlic

Garlic is one of the best herbs to flavor numerous dishes, but it does leave an odor on the hands. However, there are numerous ways to remove the smell from a chef’s hands.

With all the methods listed below, always wash hands with cold water. Warm water opens pores, so the skin absorbs the garlic odor. After the scent is removed, use soap and hot water as usual.

Make a paste by adding a small amount of water to 2 parts baking soda with 1 part salt. Baking soda reduces odors, and salt is an exfoliant. Baking soda can be used without salt for extra sensitive skin.

Washing with spent coffee grounds will help remove the garlic odor, but hands will smell like coffee for a while.

Make a paste of lemon juice and salt. This is effective but do not use if hands have any cuts or dry skin. Hands will be left with a pleasant citrus scent.

Toothpaste will remove garlic odor and leave hands with a minty smell.

Like tomato juice removes skunk odor from unfortunate animals that get sprayed, tomato juice will remove the garlic odor from hands

.Pour a little vinegar into your palm and rub it into hands. The vinegar will dissipate, and hands will be odor-free.

Rub vegetable oil onto hands before working with garlic. After chopping and/or mincing garlic, wash as usual, and all garlic smell will be gone.

Stainless steel is one of the most effective methods to remove the garlic odor from hands. Rubbing hands with a Brillo stainless steel scrubbing pad is also very effective.
