Cleaning Tip of the Day
Kitty litter can be used for many other uses than a house cat’s litterbox.
Kitty litter can be used during the summer for those outdoor parties, get-togethers, and suppers. A layer of kitty litter in the bottom of the grill will absorb dripping grease and oils that can cause fires.
For preserving flowers pour a layer of kitty litter into a plastic box. Lay flowers on the kitty litter. After 7 to 10 days, the flowers will be dried and ready to save for scrapbooks, gifts, and memories.
To discourage moles in the lawn, pour soiled cat litter into the mole holes. Moles hate the odor and will go elsewhere.
If motor oil drips or spills on the garage floor or driveway, pour kitty litter on the soiled area. The kitty litter will absorb the oil. If the oil stains are old, wash the stains with paint thinner. While still wet, pour kitty litter on the spot. Sweep the area clean after 12 hours.
When traveling in the winter where there is ice and snow, keep a bag or box of kitty litter in the trunk of the car. It can be used for traction when getting stuck on ice.
A small bag of kitty litter on the dashboard, or near the rear window in vehicles, helps to dehydrate the interior of the vehicle. This will reduce condensation on the interior windshield and windows especially during the winter when indoor and outdoor temperatures very widely.
Kitty litter can remove algae in ponds by pouring one pound of kitty litter for every 2,000 gallons of water.
Mobile phones dropped in water can be dried in kitty litter even faster than with rice. Place the phone in a small cloth bag, bury in the kitty litter, and leave alone until there is no moisture left when the phone is removed.
When housetraining a new puppy, or living with an older dog who has accidents, kitty litter is indispensable. Pour a little kitty litter on the soiled area and sweep or vacuum when dry.
A very easy way to clean up vomit when a pet has an upset stomach is to pour on kitty litter. After the vomit has been absorbed by the kitty litter, scrape up the pile and dispose of it in a garbage bag.
