How to Lure Wasps Away

How to Lure Wasps Away

Health Tip of the Day

Lure wasps away from your next outdoor party, barbecue, or patio cookout with this tip.

Wasps are attracted to the scent of foods.  They like tomato and barbecue sauces, honey, peanut butter, meat, and milk products, but they especially love sweets.  Pies, cakes, sodas, jams, jellies, and fruits are their favorites!

Add vinegar to all wasp traps to keep bees safely away.

One of the very easiest of traps to lure and catch wasps is to place a few small pieces of meat into an empty soda bottle.  Wasps will fly in the but small opening will prevent them from flying out.

An easy trap to catch wasps is to mix 1/2 cup sugar and 2 cups water.  Boil, let cool, and pour into an empty soda bottle.  Place the bottle close, but not directly in the area of the party.  Wasps will be attracted to the sweet syrup, will crawl in, but won’t be able to fly out of the bottle.

Another method is to add 2 tablespoons of honey with 1/2 cup of hot water.  Add 1 cup vinegar.  Pour into an empty soda bottle.  This will also lure wasps away from guests and the celebration.

A third variation is to set a trap with a combination of 1 cup vinegar, 2 tablespoons sugar or honey, and 1 teaspoon salt.
