The rose is most often associated with romance and love, but it is also famous for other noteworthy reasons.
The oldest living rose is the Rose of Hildesheim. It is also identified as the Thousand-Year Rose because it was planted in the 800’s. The rose plant grows on Germany’s Cathedral of Hildesheim. The rose plant was destroyed when the area was bombed during World War II but has regrown every year from the roots which were not damaged. It sports beautiful pale pink blossoms in May.
White roses are also associated with sympathy, grieving, and funerals. Even red roses are sometimes given to people during times of sadness.
The world’s most expensive rose is the Juliet.
Rose oil is one of the crucial ingredients in exquisite perfumes. However, to extract just one gram of rose oil requires two thousand roses.
