Salt is a necessary element to health, but its use should be kept at a minimum due to its high sodium content. In addition, some salts are healthier than others. Therefore, when choosing a salt, it is best to select one that has as many healthful minerals and nutrients as possible.

Pink Himalayan salt contains all 84 essential elements needed for good health, says Dr. Carolyn Dean, MD, ND. Himalayan salt has less sodium content than ordinary table salt. Because Himalayan salt contains 3 times more potassium than regular table salt, it preserves a natural fluid balance in the body, thus maintaining lower blood pressure. A higher iron oxide content also helps to sustain normal cholesterol levels.

Himalayan salt contains berberine chloride that has shown promise in reducing blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes. In addition, ongoing studies show that berberine may also help increase insulin secretion and decrease insulin resistance.
