The dyeing, or coloring, of hard boiled eggs is what makes eggs beautiful Easter eggs. Here are some tips on how to dye the eggs to brilliant colors.

The easiest and most simple method is to follow the instructions that are given with the package of dye, but if other methods are used, there are no instructions.

The most common and easiest method is to add a teaspoon white, or apple cider vinegar to a cup boiling water with the food coloring. Place the hard boiled egg into the colored water and let set for about 5 minutes. Turn the egg gently for even coloring. Remove and place on a small rack or plate.

Hard boiled eggs can be hot, warm, or cold when coloring.

The dye should be dissolved in the water before inserting eggs. If the dye is a liquid, simply stir into the water.

Lemon juice can be used if vinegar is not available. Eggs dyed without vinegar will boast a lighter, more pastel, color.

Some people feel that soaking eggs in vinegar for 2 minutes before dying makes the colors more brilliant.

Kool-aid, boiled onion skins, red cabbage leaves, turmeric, and beets can be used to dye eggs if food coloring is not available.

Hard boiled eggs should be refrigerated. Never leave eggs out at room temperature for more than 2 hours.
