Red Clover Reduces Slugs

Gardeners battle with slugs every season. Every trick in the book has been used from chemical baits to beer traps, diatomaceous earth, crushed eggshells, and even copper flashing as a barricade.

Now scientists say that companion planting can be a real organic way to control slugs. This is just one of many organic methods to control slugs.

Scientists at the Harper Adams University College Shropshire, UK, have discovered that planting red clover can lure slugs away from plants. Slugs love red clover above everything else and will eat the clover leaving the desired plants alone.

If this trap works in an agricultural setting, imagine what it can do for a backyard garden!
