Cleaning Tip of the Day
Vanilla is not only a favorite flavor enhancer for many baked goods and other dishes, it is excellent for removing odors from home.
Vanilla extract is recommended by some appliance technicians. Add a little vanilla extract to the water before washing refrigerators, conventional ovens, microwave ovens, and washing machines. If any odor remains, cotton balls soaked in vanilla extract can be placed inside the appliance for a few hours.
An alternative method to wash appliances is to add a few drops of vanilla extract directly to the wet cloth or sponge being used.
Boil water to which vanilla extract has been added to remove household and cooking odors.
Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to a load of laundry. This is especially helpful for dirty clothes or linens with strong odors.
To remove mold and mildew from laundry add up to 2 tablespoons of vanilla extract in the rinse cycle.
When vacuuming, add a few drops to the dust bag or filter. This will freshen the air when the vacuum cleaner is being used.
A tablespoon of vanilla extract can be added to paint when painting indoors. The house will smell fantastic. This is also helpful to neutralize the paint smell for people who have respiratory allergies or asthma due to paint odors.
Use artificial vanilla extract when using for cleaning chores because it has a more potent odor than natural vanilla extract.
