Do Cloves Keep Mosquitoes Away

Health Tip of the Day

Cloves is one major spice that can keep mosquitoes at bay for an afternoon or evening outdoor event, be it a party or working in the garden.

A study published in Malaria Journal showed that clove oil can keep mosquitoes away for two to four hours.

Place a few drops of clove oil on cotton balls, or pieces of fabric and scatter them around the area where mosquitoes are not welcome.

Essential clove oil can be placed in a diffuser and mosquitoes will flee the clove-scented air.

Clove oil can be mixed with a carrier oil like jojoba, almond, apricot kernel, or coconut oil and placed on the wrists like perfume. Mosquitoes will avoid coming near.

Doctors warn that clove oil should not be worn during pregnancy, while breastfeeding, or used on babies.

Mosquitoes also dislike citrus so pressing whole cloves in lemon or orange halves and left on a dish will keep mosquitoes away.
