How to Clean Natural Wicker

Cleaning Tip of the Day

The thought of cleaning wicker furniture can be daunting to someone unfamiliar with it, but cleaning wicker is easy.

Remove dust with a damp cloth. Incredibly soft microfiber cloths are great for this purpose. As a general cleaner, mix 1 part liquid dish soap with 8 parts warm water. With a sponge or soft cloth, wipe down the object. Rinse with a garden hose.

To remove mildew or mold, add one cup of white vinegar to the solution. Then, use a toothbrush to gently scrub the stubborn spots.

A combination of half-and-half bleach and water is good to apply to stained areas.

After the wicker is totally dry, apply shellac or tung oil as a sealant using a paintbrush.

Maintain the cleaned wicker by dusting frequently. Then wipe with lemon oil or furniture polish.
