Poison Ivy and Vitamin E

Poison Ivy and Vitamin E

Health Tip of the Day

Poison ivy is a rash that can be alleviated without resorting to over-the-counter and expensive prescription drugs.

Vitamin E is a nutrient and an antioxidant. In addition, vitamin E contains a substance called tocopherol.

Several studies showed that people suffering from poison ivy rashes applied Vitamin E on the inflammation, and the itching was eased within 5 minutes. They reapplied it whenever itching returned. The rash disappeared within 3 days.

According to the National Institutes of Health Office of Dietary Supplements, vitamin E is an antioxidant for the skin. It neutralizes free radicals, a cause of the destruction of cells, including damaged skin, and aids in healing.

Whereas jewelweed, a common plant antidote for poison ivy, isn’t always available, vitamin E oil can be carried everywhere in a purse, satchel, or backpack.
