Vanilla Extract to Flavor Coffee

Vanilla Extract to Flavor Coffee

Cooking Tip of the Day

Vanilla extract is an easy and inexpensive way to add flavor, and a bit of sweetness, to any cup of cold or hot coffee.

By adding vanilla extract sweetness can be added to any cup of coffee with zero calories.  It won’t be as sweet as if a vanilla syrup were used, but is tasty and healthful.

A homemade vanilla flavored coffee syrup can be easily whipped up in just a few minutes by boiling 1 cup of white sugar and 1 cup of water.  Boil for a few minutes until the sugar is completely dissolved.  Take the mixture off the heat and cool.  Add 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract and mix well. The syrup will remail fresh for 1 month when refrigerated.

Another version of vanilla syrup can be made by using 3 parts of white sugar to 1 part of brown sugar.  Add vanilla to taste.

Vanilla extract or homemade vanilla syrup can be added to coffee with cream, milk, or half-and-half to create a delicious homemade latte.  Other flavors of extracts can also be used.
