Pets Tip of the Day

Dry shamoos for dogs are easy and fine to use when there is no time, or it’s too cold for a water bath.

The amounts of dry shampoo products are used in accordance to the size of the dog, so no exact quantities can be given.

Before using any of these natural dry shampoos brush the dog’s hair.  This will get any tangles or matted hair combed out.  Brushing will remove any hair ready to be shed.  Brushing will also loosen all dried soil, skin flakes, and give the dog’s skin a gentle stimulation that feels fantastic!

Baking soda is great for absorbing skin oils, dirt, and will leave the dog smelling clean and sweet.  Sprinkle baking soda directly onto the dog’s hair.  Leave it set for a few minutes and brush out.

Cornstarch will leave the dog’s coat clean and fluffy.  Sprinkle a small amount of cornstarch onto the dog’s hair and brush out.  Use cornstarch with caution.  If the dog is allergic to corn, do not use.

Arrowroot powder can be used in the same way as cornstarch for dog’s that are allergic to corn.

A mixture of 4 parts cornstarch to one part baking soda can also be used.  Massage into the hair, let set for a few minutes to absorb excel oils, and brush out.

Colloidal oat powder is another natural food item that can be used as a dry shampoo for dogs.

After brushing out, blow dry any remaining powder from the dog’s coat.  If the dog dislikes a blow dryer, rub the dog’s hair with a towel just like after a soap and water bath.
