Cleaning a microwave oven is easy. Two precautions must be observed. Never use bleach or air-fresheners in a microwave.
Always use microwave-safe containers when using any of the cleaning solutions below.
For simple baked on grease or food simply heat a cup of water in a bowl. Let it steam for 5 minutes. Then wipe out the interior of the microwave oven.
For a stronger cleaning solution mix a cup of each, vinegar and water, and heat on high in the oven for 5 minutes and wipe out the residue. For additional strength, add 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. Steam for an additional 2 to 3 minutes.
One tablespoon of lemon, lime, or orange juice can be mixed with one cup water and heated in the microwave oven for 5 minutes. Wipe out with a sponge.
To use baking soda, mix one cup of baking soda and 2 cups water. Microwave for at least 6 to 7 minutes and wipe with a damp cloth.
Baking soda works miracles in refrigerators and can also work for microwave ovens. Clean microwave ovens which still have an odor can be freshened by placing an open box of baking soda in the microwave oven and left overnight.
